Jacky Lubeck en Jan Willems maken al vele jaren theater in Palestina, met jonge Palestijnen.
Met hun groep, Theatre Day Productions, komen ze tussen 18 november en 18 december naar Nederland voor een serie voorstellingen. Zie hier. Het is een zelf geschreven stuk over de absurditeit van het leven in Gaza.

I wrote the play during the on-going siege of Gaza. It’s an odd little piece about survival and the absurdity of the situation in Gaza. And it really is absurd these days. The world should be ashamed! Right now, if not for the very dangerous tunnels that have grown like mushrooms next to the border with Egypt, there is very little to be had in Gaza. People, now unaware of any other type of existence, have gotten used to looking for – or living without – the most ordinary of daily needs. In the play, a group of young people try to get what they need. The opening line: All a person can do is try. But the play is not about stuff. It is about the need for a solution, the need for an open border, for trade, for jobs, for an end to a ridiculous situation that, for some reason, the Israelis are quite comfortable with.

Eerste probleem: het oorspronkelijke stuk wordt gespeeld door mensen uit Gaza. En die komen waarschijnlijk Gaza niet uit. In dat geval gaat plan B in werking: dan komen er spelers van de Westoever, en wordt het stuk tegelijkertijd gespeeld in Gaza.

Tweede probleem: een van de spelers voor plan B is Raeeda Ghazaleh. Ze heeft een dochtertje van een jaar, Yasmine. Wat ze nodig heeft: een baby sitter. Dat is nog eens een leuke manier om praktische solidariteit te tonen!
